Excellent and strong relations with Egypt

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has described as "excellent and strong" the relations between Cyprus and Egypt, following a meeting he had in New York, on Monday, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The two men, who met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, discussed the trilateral high-level meeting due to take place in October in Cairo, bilateral ties, the Cyprus problem, and regional developments.
In a brief statement, President Anastasiades said the meeting was very constructive and added that “we are preparing the trilateral meeting of Cairo between 11 and 12 October.”
“I wish once more to stress that we enjoy excellent and strong relations,” he pointed out.
On his part, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said that the very constructive meeting between the two Presidents reflects the high level of relations between Cyprus and Egypt and the excellent relations between Anastasiades and Sisi.
Discussions focused on five matters, he noted.
According to the Government Spokesman, the two men discussed “the forthcoming trilateral meeting of the heads of state, between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus which will take place in Cairo.”
They discussed at length “relations between the EU and Egypt and the Egyptian President expressed his great satisfaction for the role that the Republic of Cyprus plays on the relations between Cairo and Brussels, as a country which fully comprehends the particularities of the region and the interests of the countries within it.”
The Cyprus problem was also discussed, according to Christodoulides, who said that President Anastasiades thanked Al Sisi for Egypt`s role within the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
Bilateral ties with an emphasis on energy matters and a recent agreement signed in Nicosia were also discussed. The agreement, he pointed out, “constitutes the start of a more established cooperation between the two countries.”
Referring to regional developments which were part of the agenda, he said that “there are common concerns and worries and it is through joint action that we will deal with these difficulties.”
